When you present your friends with homemade gifts, they will appreciate it a lot more because they know how much effort would have gone into making it. Even if your homemade gift doesn't turn out to be as good looking as an equivalent available in the market, the charm of something made by hands is always extra special and be rest assured- it will lie on the show-rack of your friends' living room for a very very long time!
Check out some funky handmade gift ideas that would suit both boys and girls; men and women.
Hand Painted Mug:
Buy a ceramic mug that is plain white in colour. Buy a set of coloured ceramic paints. Browse for a few interesting images on the internet for reference and print out a few selections that are not too intricate and relatively easy to paint on the curved surface of the mug. Try writing the name of the recipient of the gift on the mug with a fun tagline. For instance: Sarah- Rockstar of the Year or William- the king of good times! Paint the mug with broad and colourful brush strokes and leave it to dry in the sun. Your present is ready! Make sure your friend doesn't use this mug for the microwave though!
Chunky Necklace:
Take a string of good quality thread (that won't snip with weight) and tie 2 big knots at both ends. Create one loop at one end of the thread just big enough for the other end to fit in. For girls, collect all sorts of kitschy material from your local flea market- shells, beads, dangling loop earrings and so on. Slide them one after the other until the whole string is complete. For boys, simply take two or three invalid credit cards and paste colourful paper on both sides of the card. With a dark coloured marker pen, write something 'cool' such as "I love Rock" or "Peace for the World" or the initials of their name and slide it into the thread. There you go- you are ready with funky jewellery that would not be available anywhere in the market!
Picture Hanger:
Take a long wooden rod and at an interval of a few inches, tie strong threads that hang loose at one end. Attach clips (that we use to dry clothes on the hanging line), to those loose ends. Place prints of family pictures in each clip. Tie further threads to each of the clips coming one level down (see a tree shape being made) and again place picture prints in those clips. Keep doing this until you have a family photo tree made out of clips. It will look extremely earthy and nice and will serve as a super reminder of the nice family times!
Imagine how much money you would have spent if you went shopping in the market. Well, the answer was lying in your very own home.
