People start shopping and preparing for Halloween (October 31) weeks before the holiday is actually celebrated. Preparing for costume parties, food, gifts and decorating the home, it all takes a long time. Decorating the house requires a lot of planning and creativity. First, one should decide the theme for the Halloween party. Then according to the theme, one should buy the decorations. Decorating not only includes the house; but it also includes the yard, garden and the entrance. Read some of the ways in which you can decorate your Halloween party-pad.


Inside the House

The hosts can decide a theme for the party, like a vampire-theme or a movie theme like Harry Potter, Aliens, Avatar, Toy Story, etc. Or else, they can have a simple Halloween costume party. Traditional decorations are mostly used for lighting and decor in the house. Plastic Jack-o-lanterns are available in the market and can be used for lighting around the house. Red lamps and candles add to the spooky ambience. House decor items like Vampire curtains, Dracula cushion-covers, Batman tablecloths and carpets for Halloween are easily available on the net or in the market.


On the dinner table, one can use Halloween themed table mats, napkin holders and even crockery. To add to the scary feeling, one can hang fake plastic-skeletons on the wall. To add to the monstrous feel, the host can draw bloody footsteps on the pathway leading up to the house to create an eerie feeling for the guests.


Outside the House

If the party is organized in the yard or near the pool, there are many decoration ideas one can look for. Lighting Jack-o-lanterns at every corner instead of simple lights will give a traditional Halloween feel. Keeping haystacks, scarecrows, fake tombstones in the yard will make the yard look scary. One can make big fake spider webs and stick them on the trees and on the fence.


Fake skulls can be hung outside the door, near the mail box and kept on the porch. To make the yard look scary, partially painting the tables and chairs red in color and will make them look like they are strewn in blood. The lighting in the yard should be kept to the minimum. Also, each member of the family can make life sized paper cutouts of themselves and dress them up in scary costumes to place around the house. This way, a family party theme can be created where the hosts can borrow a few ideas from fictional families like The Addams Family, etc.
